The Childhood of FDR
When FDR was born his family owned their own estate, this estate was named Springwood in Hyde Park, New York. He was the only child in his family and his parents where extremely wealthy. His parents names were James Roosevelt and Sara Ann Delanor. His mother was only 27 years old and she died in 1941. Sara would play a very influential part in her sons life. FDR spent his early life in Hyde Park, he was tutored and in 1896 Franklin was sent to his first formal schooling at Groton school in Groton, Massachusetts
FDR'S College life and marriage
In 1900 FDR had went to college at Harvard University. During his first few months at Harvard tragedy had struck, and his father had passed away. The same year that Roosevelt at became managing editor he was engaged to his wife Anna Eleanor Roosevelt. They both ended up having six children, five of them lived past infancy.
FDR begins his political career
In 1905 Franklin had applied and got accepted to the Columbia Law School. However after he passed the New York State Bar exam he had left school. The next few years he had worked at a law firm in Carter, Ledyard and Milburn. In the year 1910 FDR was asked to run for the senate as a member of the democratic party in Duchess County, New York. Despite the seat being mostly Republican he still won it. He had won the seat a second time but it was cut short when he was asked to become assistant secretary of the Navy, an important role since America was entering WWI.
