The Battle of Stalingrad began in August 1942 when Nazi Germany invaded Volgograd Oblast, Russia. The Germans invaded the in the city of the Stalingrad building, which was an important administrative center that Germany was hoping to take over. The Stalingrad Battle was very brutal and crucial battle in World War II. In February 1943, the Soviet Union officially won the battle. Germany was very weakened and had many military losses and could not continue to fight. This battle was a turning point of the war, because Germany lost control in the East and never again regained that power. The Germans lost about 750,000 people while the Soviet Union lost about 480,000, totaling over one million deaths from the battle.
