Benito Mussolini
Childhood
Benito Mussolini was born on July 29th, 1883 in Italy. As a young boy Benito would spend a lot of time helping his father with black smith work. Benito gained many of his political ideals from his father Alessandro. Alessandro was a revolutionary socialist. Benito attended a boarding school ran by monks as a child. From 1902 to 1904 Benito had moved to Switzerland where he was a stonemason, until he returned to Italy in 1904. However in 1909 Benito once again left Italy to become a secretary of the Labor Party in Austria-Hungary. At this time Benito also was involved with the Socialists Party. In 1914, World War I began and as a Socialists, Benito supported the war. Also during 1914 Benito began the Fascists ideals. On December 25th, 1915, Benito married Rachele Guidi. Over the years Benito and his wife had two children a girl, Edda, and boy, Ida Dalser.
Rise to Power
With Italy under Totalitarianism and the government in a downfall after a hardship of war, who would rise to the challenge of making Italy great
again? Benito Mussolini quickly became a quite powerful man in Italy and looked to bring greatness back to Italy. To start off the bringing up of Italy, Mussolini founded the Fascist Party in 1919. The Fascist Party was an organization that supported Nationalism and Mussolini officially made the promise to once again make Italy great. In 1922, Italian King Victor Emmanuel III asked Mussolini to take a step up and create a better government for Italian people. This led Mussolini to many events that had effect on Italy. Mussolini soon called himself Il Duce, or “the Leader”, this name quickly proved to be true as he gained control of the government and army of Italy within just a few years. Throughout Italy, Mussolini used his large power to outlaw political parties, take over the press, create a secret police force, end strikes, and organize youth groups. Mussolini also made a strong point to oppose liberalism and socialism. Benito Mussolini helped the struggling Italian government and brought the country out of a tough time of war.
